3. Application
If the applicant passes the Initial Phone Screen we then bring them in for the Application. Before applicants ever enter our office we assess a number of "parking lot" factors. What is their mode of transportation to our office? Are others present with them? What are their actions in our parking lot, etc? We believe whatever actions are taking place in our parking lot are likely to be repeated at our Clients' homes. If any negative actions are noted the applicant is rejected.
While in our office filling out the Application we interact with the applicant to assess personality, friendliness and other factors. Are they talking on their cell phone? Did they bring children with them? Are they being respecful to our staff? Again, we believe whatever is shown in our presence will likely be repeated in our clients' homes.
Once completed, the Application allows us to compare information. The information gathered during the Initial Phone Screen is nearly identical to what is asked for on the Application. We check to see if there are discrepancies with dates, work history, etc.
4. Personality Assessment
If the applicant passes the Application they are sent to take our multi-faceted personality test. This test has been developed over many years by a team of mental health professionals. We are able to gather critical information about tendencies of hostility, drug abuse, hostility as well as the applicant's aptitude for caregiving.
5. Interview
If the applicant passes the Personality Assessment they are brought in for the face-to-face interview. During the Interview a number of critical questions are asked to uncover past issues, reveal the truth and verify if the person is indeed someone we want to move to the next step of our screening process.
6. Criminal Background Checks
If the applicant passes the the Interview then multiple Criminal Background Checks (not just one) are performed. We believe that running multiple Criminal Background Checks and accessing multiple databases, vs. one, increases our chances of uncovering a criminal past.
7. Work References
If the applicant passes the Criminal Background Checks we begin checking Work References to verify the information they have given us about their employment history is true and accurate.
We also gather information from the former employer about their experience with the applicant. We believe that an applicant's past work performance is one of the best indicators of their future work performance. It's hard to change the color of a horse.
8. Personal References
If the applicant passes the Work References we begin checking Personal References to inquire more about the applicant's personality and character.
9. DMV
If the applicant passes the Personal References we run a Department of Motor Vehicle check.
10. Drug Screen
If the applicant passes the DMV check we have applicants take a multi-panel drug screen.
11. Client Interview
Finally, after the applicant passes all of these steps, we allow our clients to hand pick the care assistant they feel is a best match for their loved one. We do not "assign" care staff to clients.
This is by no means the entire in-home care screening process, but we hope this glimpse has been enlightening.
